About

We believe the greatest luxury is not found in opulent amenities, but in the feeling of belonging. Our mission is to help boutique hotels cultivate genuine hospitality that turns strangers into welcomed guests, guests into loyal advocates, and every stay into a lasting memory.

Colorful Koi Fish

Long before I built a career in hospitality, I understood what true hospitality felt like.

I was raised in my grandmother's home, where the front door was always open and everyone was welcomed with genuine warmth. She had an extraordinary gift for making people feel comfortable, valued, and cared for. Home wasn't simply a place—it was a feeling she created for everyone around her.

My aunt, who shared our home, was a travel agent long before the internet transformed the industry. Through her work, she introduced me to a world far bigger than I could have imagined. Together, she and my grandmother took me on countless vacations and staycations, and by the age of eleven I was already a world traveler.

Surprisingly, my favorite destination was never the city itself.

It was always the hotel.

I was captivated by everything about the experience. The brochures neatly displayed in the lobby inviting guests to explore somewhere new. The welcoming smile of the bellman as he took our luggage. The quiet excitement of checking in. Pulling back the curtains for the first time to discover an unfamiliar view. Sliding into crisp white linens while carefully reading the room service menu and imagining the adventures that awaited the next morning.

Looking back, I realize those moments weren't about luxury.

They were about belonging.

Hotels possess a unique ability to make complete strangers feel at home. Before you've explored a destination, they've already begun shaping your memories. And after a long day spent discovering somewhere new, they become your sanctuary—a place where you can exhale, recharge, and feel completely at ease, even hundreds of miles from your own home.

While my grandmother and aunt taught me the beauty of hospitality, my mother taught me what it takes to build a life around it.

She instilled in me the belief that nothing worth having comes easily. Leisure is one of life's greatest rewards, but it is earned through discipline, perseverance, and relentless hard work. She taught me that if I wanted to build a life I was proud of, I would have to earn it one step at a time.

So that's exactly what I did.

I began my career at the very bottom of the hospitality industry as a hostess in one of Newport Beach's busiest restaurants. Determined to master every aspect of service, I worked my way to server, lead server, and eventually bartender. Each promotion wasn't simply a new title—it was another lesson in creating memorable experiences for the people I served.

Eventually, my passion led me into boutique hotels, where I accepted a position tending bar at a poolside restaurant. The days were long under the California sun, serving families returning from Disneyland, couples celebrating milestones, and travelers seeking a moment of relaxation. It was there that I began to understand that hotels aren't simply buildings. They are the setting for life's celebrations, reunions, adventures, and unforgettable memories.

Over the next sixteen years, I continued learning every facet of hospitality, from food and beverage to hotel operations and guest experience, ultimately earning the role of Guest Experience Manager at a beautiful oceanfront boutique hotel in Laguna Beach.

Today, those three influences remain the foundation of Philoxenia Hospitality Consulting.

My grandmother taught me how to welcome people.

My aunt showed me the wonder that thoughtful travel can inspire.

My mother gave me the determination to turn that passion into expertise.

The name Philoxenia comes from Ancient Greece and means "friendship toward strangers." It perfectly embodies the philosophy that has shaped both my life and my career.

I believe the world's most memorable hotels aren't defined by extravagant amenities or impeccable design alone. They're remembered because of how they make people feel.

My mission is to help boutique hotels create experiences that go beyond exceptional service. Through operational excellence, thoughtful guest experience, and a deep understanding of genuine hospitality, I help transform hotels into places where guests don't simply spend the night.

They arrive, exhale, and feel at home.

Because the greatest luxury isn't found in marble, thread counts, or ocean views.

It's the feeling of being welcomed home.
